Do You Know Whats in Your Air at Home?
WHAT IS RADON?
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that comes from decomposing Radium, which is a naturally occurring alkaline earth metal. The problem is that you cannot SEE, SMELL or TASTE Radon if it is seeping into your house.
The major source of Radon in high levels is in the ground that is surrounding and under homes. It is EVERYWHERE in the United States, but in varying concentrations. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that as many as 1 and 15 homes has dangerous levels of Radon which poses a SERIOUS risk to the home inhabitants, who may be completely unaware.
The #1 issue with Radon is that it is a serious health hazard. It causes cancer in humans and has been declared a "Class A Carcinogen" which is why the Environmental Protection Agency and Surgeon General recommend testing for Radon in every home.
HOW DO I KNOW IF IM BREATHING RADON?
The only way to know if you are breathing Radon is to test for it. The Radon test will measure the amount of Radon in your home in pico-Curies per liter of air (pCi/L). A picoCurie is a measure of the amount of radioactivity in a substance. The Environmental Protection Agency action level standard is 4.0 pCi/L. If you test your home, and the levels are at or above 4.0pCi/L, then Radon Mitigation is a must to get those toxic levels to an allowable level. Because Radon is naturally occurring there will never be a level of 0, but reducing the concentration level reduces the risk of cancer causing gas in your home.
At Frontier Basement Systems, we provide a complete solution for you and your family. We provide testing and Radon Mitigation to keep the air you and your family are breathing, safe.
