Encapsulation and Foundation Work in Hopkinsville, KY
Challenge
Debra has lived in her 1970's home for the past 16 years. This past year she started noticing her home's health detoriating, specifically in her crawl space. There was standing water on her tarp a majority of the time and mold was growing on her wood beams. This was causing a musty aroma to linger in her crawl space, as well as her living quarters. The mold had caused her wood beams to weaken and this created uneven floors above. Debra wanted her home to be healthy again before it affected her own health!
Solution
Our crew first took out the old tarp, because it was in no way preventing moisture from absorbing into her home, and it was actually just bunching up and creating a perfect place for pests to make their home.
They then started the encapsulating process-
Drainage Matting: Our crew rolled out 1,480 sq feet of our dimpled drainage matting system. This matting is designed to collect water from the crawl space floor and direct it to a sump pump and perimeter drainage pipe.
CleanSpace Liner: On top of the matting, we installed our super-durable, 20mil plastic sheet material designed to permanently prevent moisture, outside air and pests from getting into your crawl space.
Debra's wood had a high moisture content, so to make sure no further decay would occur, we installed our dehumidifier.
SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier: This dehumidifier has a whopping 100 pints per day capacity and will move over 300 cubic feet of dry air per minute around your basement or crawl space. By drying the below-grade area of your home, the SaniDry Sedona will help make your whole house drier and healthier!
To make sure Debra never had standing water in her home again, our crew had to install a powerful pump.
TripleSafe Sump Pump: Has three pumps that automatically change based on your space's needs. Pump 1 is a heavy-duty 1/3 horsepower cast-iron Zoeller pump that does most of the pumping, handling up to 2,600 gallons of water per hour. Pump 2 is a 1/2 HP pump that operates automatically if Pump 1 fails or if greater pumping volume is needed (up to 6,200 gallons per hour). Pump 3 is a battery-operated pump that turns on automatically if power fails.
For extra moisture prevention measures, we installed the perfect crawl space door.
EverLast Door: This door is made from ½-in.-thick PVC plastic that is just about indestructible. The heavy-duty weatherstripping ensures a water and air tight seal.
Debra had a problem with bouncy and uneven floors from her weakened beams, so we helped with some support!
SmartJacks System: These support posts will straighten and strengthen sagging, bouncy floors above a crawl space. They are made of a galvanized steel that will never rust!
