Crawl space entry
The old crawl space door was the typical wood door with entry from the garage.
Lined but not protected
The crawl space did have a plastic liner down but was not encapsulated. Moisture and humidity in the air was not controlled in this crawl space.
Evidence of Pooling
This liner was not wrapped around the columns and shows evidence of pooling on top.
Mold Growth
Mold requires 3 things to grow. Humidity over 55%. Temperature over 60 degrees. And dead organic material. This crawl space has all three for at least half of the year.
Encapsulation
The CleanSpace liner is 7 layers and 20 mil think plastic that provides a true vapor barrier.
Columns Wrapped and Sealed
Wrapping the columns is also important step to the crawl space encapsulation to protect against moisture.
Clean and Covered
Not only is the crawl space protected, so is the home above. The floor joist are protected from mold. The wood flooring is protected from high moisture content. The heating and cooling duct work is protected from extreme temperatures. The air in the living space is healthier for the family.
