Crawl Space Repair Photo Album: Crawl Space Encapsulation in Madisonville, KY
This homeowner in Madisonville, KY, sought to have their cluttered crawl space encapsulated to protect it from the negative effects of water. Over the years, the crawl space had become a space to store unwanted things. So, our crew got to work encapsulating the space to be a more comfortable environment to store items. First, the clutter was cleared from the space. We then sealed the vents with SilverGlo insulation panels to prevent unclean air from blowing up into the home. We rolled out drainage matting, a dimpled piece of plastic that goes under the vapor barrier, to help with the flow of any water that may get stuck under the barrier. Our 20-mil-thick CleanSpace vapor barrier was applied on top of the matting, while a thinner barrier lined the walls and columns in the space. To combat excess humidity, we installed a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier to keep the relative crawl space humidity under 55 percent, as mold begins to form at humidity levels of 60 percent or more. In the lowest spot of the crawl space, a TripleSafe sump pump was installed to pump out water that may flood into the basement.
