Improper Crawl Space Door
Metal or wood doors are commonly used for crawl space entrances, but unfortunately, they are inadequate. These doors are prone to rust or rot and do not provide an airtight seal, allowing moisture to enter and increase humidity levels in the space.
Moisture Build-Up on Vapor Barrier
Although this crawl space had a vapor barrier, it lacked full encapsulation and an adequate barrier. As a result, moisture has pooled on the surface of the barrier, which will eventually lead to condensation in the air.
Missing Wall Barrier
As seen here, the walls of the crawl space were not properly encapsulated, allowing moisture to seep through. The absorbent insulation acts like a sponge, becoming heavy and eventually falling when it absorbs too much moisture.
Unsealed Barrier
The improper vapor barrier was poorly applied, with cut areas loosely resting against the walls. Without proper sealing, the barrier fails to effectively isolate the space from the ground, allowing moisture to seep through the gaps.
Drainage Matting and Encapsulated Walls
The proper Frontier encapsulation starts with isolating the walls. The CleanSpace vapor barrier is carefully applied first, and once it's in place, drainage matting is laid down. This matting prevents groundwater from getting trapped beneath the vapor barrier.
CleanSpace Vapor Barrier
Next, the CleanSpace vapor barrier is expertly installed. This bright white barrier is durable and comes with a 25-year warranty against rips and tears. Additionally, it features a mold-resistant additive to help prevent mildew and mold growth.
SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier
The SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier is a crucial component of the Frontier solution. This compact yet powerful unit is both effective and energy-efficient, capable of removing 100 pints of moisture from the air each day, ensuring your space remains dry and comfortable.
EverLast Door
To complete the new encapsulation, our team installed the airtight EverLast Crawl Space Door. Crafted from inorganic materials, this door is resistant to rot and rust, ensuring long-lasting durability. Its airtight seal creates a waterproof barrier between the crawl space and outside moisture for optimal protection. Plus, it will never need a new coat of paint!
