Pooling Water
An inadequate plastic liner has resulted in stagnant water pooling in this crawl space. With no drainage, this water increases the relative humidity, promoting mold and mildew growth as it seeps into the floor joists and insulation.
Dirty Crawl Space
Excess moisture has created a grimy, muddy environment, evident in the discolored water line pipe. The image also highlights the previously installed supports, with one dangerously close to buckling under pressure.
Falling Insulation
Fiberglass insulation, prone to mold, absorbs moisture from the humid air, becoming heavy and often falling from between the floor joists.
Deteriorating Crawl Space
The long-term effects of high humidity are glaringly visible here. Insulation around the pipes is disintegrating, while the liner shows pools of water and traces of mud. Alarmingly, approximately 50% of the air in your home comes from the crawl space!
Water Damage
Crawl space walls can reveal signs of running or standing water, as illustrated by the visible water damage lines. Ignoring this issue can lead to mold growth and structural damage.
Relative Humidity
Using a hygrometer, our specialist recorded a concerning humidity level of 71.28%, well above the 55% threshold that fosters mold and mildew growth.
High Wood Moisture
A wood moisture meter indicated that the joists contained 21.7% moisture, raising concerns about mold proliferation and potential weakening of the floor structure.
Moldy Wood
Mold thrives in high-moisture environments, establishing itself on organic materials like floor joists and paper-backed insulation.
CleanSpace Installed
Our team worked diligently to remove old insulation, seal crawl space vents, and install our patented 20-mil poly-reinforced vapor barrier. This encapsulation effectively isolates the crawl space from the earth, transforming it into a usable storage area.
CleanSpace Walls
CleanSpace was also applied to the crawl space walls to prevent seepage from the porous brick. With this protective layer, the space can now be managed with a dehumidifier, helping the homeowner reduce energy bills while ensuring a fresher, healthier environment for their family.
