Dark and Damp
When we arrived, the crawl space needed to be cleaner and better protected. A thin plastic liner covered the floor but offered no real defense against moisture. This DIY solution actually worsened the problem by trapping water and creating the perfect environment for damage.
Mold Growth
The damp conditions led to mold growing on the wooden floor joists. Mold affects indoor air quality and weakens the joists over time, putting the home at risk of floor failure if left untreated.
High Humidity
Our inspection revealed an alarming 81.05% relative humidity in the crawl space. For perspective, anything over 55% creates an ideal breeding ground for mold. The higher the humidity, the more likely structural issues and health risks will develop.
Sump Pump Installation
To kick off the transformation, we dug drainage trenches leading to the lowest point in the crawl space, where we installed a reliable sump pump. This setup ensures that water will be safely collected and pumped out of the space.
Perimeter Drainage
Perimeter drainage pipes were installed along the edges of the crawl space, surrounded by clean gravel, to keep them free of debris and sediment. These pipes channel water to the sump pump, preventing it from pooling under the home.
Drainage Matting
Next, we laid drainage matting across the floor. Its dimpled design allows water to flow freely to the drainage system while staying clear of the CleanSpace liner above, keeping everything dry and functional.
CleanSpace Vapor Barrier
Our CleanSpace vapor barrier, the star of the show, was applied to the crawl space's walls, pillars, and floor. Its seven-layer construction and bright white finish block moisture and make the crawl space look clean and bright. Plus, its UltraFresh antimicrobial coating fights off mold growth for long-term protection.
TripleSafe Sump Pump
We installed the TripleSafe sump pump system to handle all potential water issues. Its three-pump design includes a battery backup to ensure peace of mind, even during power outages.
SaniDry Sedona
Finally, we added the SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier to maintain a healthy humidity level. This powerhouse removes up to 100 pints of moisture daily, keeping the crawl space clean and mold-free. This project turned a problematic crawl space into a safe, dry, and functional part of the home, and we're so proud to have helped these homeowners protect their investment!
