Exterior Crack
Allowing vines to grow on brick walls, as seen here, can add stress to the masonry. Over time, combined with foundation settlement, this has resulted in a severe stair-step crack on the exterior wall. Such cracks are early indicators of foundation problems that require immediate action to prevent further damage.
Interior Crack
The opposite side of the same wall shows similar cracking, with a large stair-step crack moving diagonally across the surface. These cracks occur when weaker soil pockets beneath the home compress unevenly, causing the foundation to shift and twist. This "settlement distress" is a clear sign that intervention is needed.
Starting the Push Pier Installation
Our team identified critical areas affected by soil instability and laid out a strategic plan to install push piers. The process begins by removing soil in carefully chosen locations to reach the foundation's footing, allowing us to address the source of the settlement directly.
Driving the Piers to Stable Soil
Once the footing is exposed, heavy-duty steel piers are hydraulically driven deep into the ground. This process continues until each pier reaches a stable, load-bearing soil layer. To monitor progress, we place tape across visible cracks; this helps our team see any lift during installation by checking for changes in the tape's tightness.
Heavy-Duty Steel Brackets
At the top of each push pier, we install a durable steel bracket that transfers the home's weight from unstable soil to the stabilized piers. This engineered design ensures the piers securely support the load and helps prevent further settlement.
Soil Replaced and Stabilization Completed
Once the foundation is stabilized, we backfill the soil, restoring the yard and curb appeal. With Frontier's warrantied solution, this homeowner can feel confident that their foundation is secure and their home protected from future settlement issues.
