Nashville, reflected by the Cumberland River, is noted for both its nightlife and abundant rainfall.
Nashville is blessed with abundant rainfall…even more than cities famous for rainfall (like Seattle)! While the rain replenishes our rivers, streams, and lakes, it also causes headaches for unprepared homeowners whose homes are built atop a crawlspace or basement. If you have a leaky basement or crawlspace, consider a quality sump pump. The best systems, such our TripleSafe Sump Pump System, offer three levels of protection. The primary pump handles most of your day-to-day pumping needs. During heavy rains – or if the primary pump should fail – a secondary pump takes over. Should there be a power outage, a battery-powered backup pump will kick into action.
Our sump pumps are often installed with a perimeter drainage system called WaterGuard®. For Nashville levels of rainfall, we recommend the TripleSafe-WaterGuard® combination although we also offer the economical SuperSump® Premier Pump System. The latter includes a primary pump and a battery-powered back-up pump. It, too, is designed to connect to a WaterGuard® drainage system.
A Frontier Foundation & Crawl Space Repair installation can transform a mold-infested sump pit into a clean, neat sump pump, as shown here.
There are a number of improvements you can make to your home that may make installing a perimeter basement and sump pump system unnecessary. Most important is to be sure that ground elevations, walkways, patios, and driveways slope away from your house. The grade should be ¼ in. per foot. If the area around your home slopes toward your foundation, it will concentrate hundreds of gallons of water at the base of your foundation wall. Seepage will be likely.
Gutter systems are important as well. They must be regularly cleaned to avoid clogs and overflows that can also concentrate water around foundation walls. Improve the efficiency of your gutter systems with gutter extenders and elongated splash blocks that dump water at least several feet away from the foundation.
If your grading and gutters are good but you still find water collecting in your crawlspace or basement, an interior drainage and sump pump systems are in order.
