We battled a wet crawlspace ever since we built our home (20 years ago). Using what was then the conventional thinking, I directed the downspouts away from the house, covered the ground with polyethylene, and provided as much ventilation as I could to the crawlspace, even using fans to circulate the air. Regardless, whenever I ran the a/c, condensation formed on the insulated metal ductwork and dripped onto the polyethylene resulting in a swamp under the house that never really dried out even into the winter months. After talking to Frontier, we took a different approach in the crawlspace and closed off all ventilation to the outside air, covered all walls, supports and the earth with their very durable liner. We also installed a dehumidifier and drainage tile feeding into a sump pit. It has been a year and a half now since we did the work and my crawlspace remains completely dry-no more condensation on the ductwork and the dehumidifier really doesn't have to run that much. The dampness we experienced in the lowermost level of out home is gone and the mold that we had in the crawlspace has been arrested. We are happy with the work performed by Frontier and our exterminator says he wishes all his customers would make his job as easy to do as out home is now. At the same time we had the crawspace worked on, we have Frontier address a settling problem that resulted in a major crack in one portion of the brick veneer of our home. The crew that performed the work showed up on schedule and worked hard to get the job done without damaging our landscaping. We have had no further settling. This type of work is not inexpensive regardless of the company you choose to do the work, but we are happy with the job that Frontier did and appreciate the professional way they approached and solved our crawlspace/ structural issues.
